COERR Organized Tree Planting Activities on the occasion of Celebration Days and Environmental Day

   During June-August 2023, COERR distributed thousands of plants to celebrate various ceremonies and promote environmental protection and risk mitigation activities in several temporary shelters.

   COERR Mae Hong Son provided trees on the special occasion of His Majesty,the King’s Birthday or Father Day, on July 28, 2023, in Ban Mae Surin Temporary Shelter, Khun Yuam District of Mae Hong Son Province. The community committees participated in planting along the area and near the water source, together with 200 camp residents of 120 females and 80 males.

   COERR Mae Sot in coordination with government and private organizations jointly organized the tree planting activity in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother’s Birthday, or the Mother’s Day, at Nu Pho school in Nu Pho Temporary Shelter, Umphang District, Tak Province on August 19, 2023. There were 320 participants of 190 females and 110 males. In addition to commemorate the auspicious occasion of H. M. the Queen Mother’s birthday, the objective of the event was to raise awareness of teachers and students in keeping the environment clean and planting to increase the green spaces.

   COERR Mae Sot and Kanchanaburi also organized tree planting on Environment Day on June 8, 2023 at Ban Nupo Temporary Shelter, in which 484 edible plants and fruit trees, including banana, mango, avocado, lemon, edible leafy acacia, bamboo, etc., were planted by camp-based refuge staff and representatives from each section to plant in their own sections. There were 362 participants of 100 females and 262 males attending.

   COERR Kanchanaburi organized tree planting for environmental protection at Ban Don Yang Temporary Shelter in Kanchanaburi Province, on July 13, 2023. 162 schoolchildren of 84 girls and 78 boys participated in planting 1,500 trees and 1,000 shoots of thatch grass. While in Ban Tham Hin Temporary Shelter in Ratchaburi Province, COERR provided 1,200 plants for community residents numbering 328 of 216 females and 112 males to grow.

   The tree planting for environmental conservation gave an advantage to the camp residents as they could eat fruits from the trees taken care by themselves and got benefits from the shading of the trees provided by COERR.
